Super Bowl XLVI
Super Bowl XLVI
THE OFFICIAL VERVE RECAP
BY: RYAN ANDERSON
Over the weekend the New York Giants and The New England Patriots faced off in a battle of the gridiron.
A rematch from 2007, the game promised to be a nail biter and it was.
Both teams knew this game would go until the final minutes.
The first quarter belonged to the Giants with the Patriot’s first play, which resulted in an unprecedented safety. The Patriots seemed disconnected from their typical play style.
After a stern talk between quarters, the Patriots looked like a whole new team. They started the second quarter by tying the Super Bowl Record for longest scoring drive with 96 yards. Although they only got a field goal, they were on the board. The score was now 9 to 3. The Patriots showed no signs of stopping and quickly regained possession and scored a touchdown, putting them up by one point going into the half.
Now it was time for the halftime show, which featured Madonna and numerous other famous artists. The show featured a medley of songs combined with cool video effects and pyrotechnics.
After, it was time to get back to the reason we were watching. The third quarter started with New England receiving the ball and scoring a touchdown, making it 17 to 9. A few short minutes later, the New York Giants responded with two unanswered field goals. This still left the giants trailing by two.
At last it was the final showdown; the fourth quarter we knew it would all come down to. It was a quiet quarter until the final three minutes, when the Giants made a huge drive to the end zone leaving the Patriots with 57 seconds to come back from a deficit of 21 to 17. The Patriots attempted to save the score; however, their attempts were in vain. The New York Giants rose again as super bowl 46 champions, with Eli Manning being named as the MVP.
